Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis , how effects Kids?

Meaning : JRA is a disease of the immune system found in children of the age of 16 years & under. In this autoimmune disease , the immune system which supposed to protect the body from invaders , viruses etc. , instead release chemicals that can damage healthy tissues & causes the destruction of healthy joints.


Symptoms of JRA : This in turn may lead to swelling , inflammation , immobility of joints , soreness , immobility of connective tissues & joint linings. A typical sign of juvenile arthritis is swelling of the joint with pain & stiffness. Some children may also develop limping or a sore wrist , finger , knee etc. Some children complain about fever in day & rashes appear & disappear on the body. some children complain about morning stiffness in joints.

Causes of JRA : Causes of JRA is still unknown. It can be caused by a viral illness & in certain cases a child may be predisposed to JRA due to genetic factors. It typically affects 1 child in every 1,000. Something in the environment such as , a virus may trigger the disease in kids that already have certain genes that make it more likely for them to get JRA.

Normally, a child’s immune system sends out white blood cells to protect the body and fight outside invaders like bacteria and viruses that can make a kid sick. With JRA, the immune system makes a mistake and targets healthy cells as if they were harmful.


Treatment of JRA : Some children who have JRA may be treated with a combination of medication , physical therapy and exercise. Some medicines like ibuprofen may be taken to control pain & inflammation. It is important for the children with JRA to keep their joints moving which make their joints strong.

Yoga for JRA : Some yoga exercises are also useful to provide mobility to the joints of the children. Children feel enjoy while doing many yoga poses because these poses are easy to perform & useful for their health too. Some of useful yoga pose for JRA are

Hand Clenching : Hands and wrists are common body parts which are affected by JRA. Take good care of your hands and joints and always keep them in good working condition by performing the Hand Clenching Exercise.

Wrist Bending : Your wrists can also be affected by JRA. Take good care of your wrists through stretching and bending. Learn how to improve the range of motion of your wrists by doing the Wrist Bending Exercise.

Ankle Bending : Repeated strain or sprain in the ankles can contribute to the occurrence of ankle JRA. Manage stress and keep your ankles in good condition through therapy, having enough rest, and by doing the Ankle Bending Exercise.

Neck Exercises : Many children hold tension in their necks and shoulders , leading to stiffness , bad posture , and tension headaches. Yoga practice can ease tension , increase flexibility, and tone the muscles. Learn some neck exercises in this posture.

Shoulder Stretches : Shoulder Stretches are great in relieving stress and tension in kids shoulders, as well as the entire upper back. Practice them daily for several weeks and notice the changes. Learn some basic stretches for the shoulders in this pose.

Single Leg Raises : This Yoga Pose is performed in order to prepare the body for other exercises. It benefits the legs, lower back muscles, and abdominal area. In practicing the single leg raise , one leg is raised while the other one stays on the floor.
