How to Prevent & Cure Urinary Tract Infection - UTI

Urinary tract infection (UTI) : This is most common type of infection that affects the urinary tract of both male & female. It is sort of bacterial infection that affects any pat of the urinary tract. Urine contains salts , fluids & waste product. It normally doesn’t contain bacteria but when bacteria get into kidney & get multiply in urine cause a UTI.

Types of UTI : When the UTI causes bladder infection is called Cystitis , another kind of UTI is a kidney infetion which is known as Pyelonephritis , which is much more serious. Lastly the UTI that affects the urethra only is known as Urethritis.

Occurred in Women mostly : This disease mostly occur in women than the men because bacteria can reach the bladder of women quick than in men because women have shorter urethra. The bacteria have less distance to cover in order to get to the bladder. Women’s urethra is located near the rectum , so bacteria passes from rectum to urethra easily & cause infection.

Symptoms of UTI : The possible signs of UTI are

1. You have the urge to urinate but you are not able to.

2. There is a burning sensation when you urinate.

3. There is a consistent feeling that you need to urinate more often than usual. This cycle may repeat itself frequently during the day or night--most people urinate about six times a day, when the need to urinate occurs more often a bladder infection should be suspected.

4. There is a cloudy, dark, smelly, and at most times bloody urine.

5. You are leaking little urine.

6. When bacteria enters the ureters and spread to the kidneys many symptoms like back pain, chills, fever, nausea & vomiting may occur, as well as the previous symptoms of lower urinary tract infection.

Causes of UTI : Most common cause of UTI are bacteria from the bowel that live on the skin near the rectum or in the vagina which can spread and enter the urinary tract through the urethra. Once these bacteria enter the urethra they travel upwards causing infection in the bladder and sometimes other parts of the urinary tract.

Another cause of bladder infections or UTI is waiting too long to urinate. The bladder is a muscle that stretches to hold urine and contracts when the urine is released. Waiting very long past the time you first feel the need to urinate causes the bladder to stretch beyond its capacity which over time can weaken the bladder muscle. When the bladder is weakened it may not empty completely and some urine is left in the bladder which may increase the risk of urinary tract infection or bladder infection.

Prevention from UTI : Here are some suggestions that may prove useful for preventing UTI.

1. Drinking plenty of liquids that helps bacteria to flush out of the urinary system.

2. Don’t wear tight cloths. They may irritate tissues , trap heat & promote bacterial growth.

3. Wipe out the vagina & the anus after defecation to avoid spreading bacteria.

4. Women should drink water after sex so that when urinate , a good volume with a steady stream afterwards. This will help eliminate any bacteria that may have entered.

5. Women should wear cotton underwear. Cotton is less irritating and provides more ventilation than nylon.

6. Women having UTI should avoid using diaphragm as a birth control. Ask doctor about other birth controml method.
