Heart disease may occur by chemical in baby bottles

A chemical found in baby’s bottle, tins & cases of CD’s may raise the risk of heart in women. Bisphenol A – a building block of many commonly used plastics can cause potentially dangerous alternation to cardiac rhythm. Scientists warn that women's health could also be at risk. The finding adds to a long list of health problems linked to the chemical which is found in the linings of many food and drink cans.

They found chemical in babies’ bottles, cases of CD’s & sunglasses & linked it to the problems from fertility to diabetes, breast cancer & prostrate cancer. “These studies have identified new and important cardiac risks associated with Bisphenol A exposure that may be especially important for women's heart health,” said Researcher Scott Belcher. They looked the effect of Bisphenol A on live cells taken from rat and mouse hearts.

They found that the chemical caused striking changes in the activity of cells taken from female animals, causing them to beat out of step. Adding the female sex hormone oestrogen into the mix made the irregular beat, or arrhythmia, even worse. Bisphenol A likely to cause heart arrhythmia's & may have other harmful actions, especially following heart attack.

People with higher than normal levels of Bisphenol A in their blood are more likely to suffer from heart problems. Higher levels of Bisphenol A were also linked to abnormal concentrations of liver enzymes, a possible sign of liver damage. The higher rate of heart disease could be caused by consuming lots of sugary drinks & not by the Bisphenol A in the lining of the drink cans some researchers claimed.

Food & drink manufacturers insisted the chemical Bisphenol A did not pose a risk to health & had been approved for use in food & drink containers by the Food Safety Authority & Food Standards Agency. A spokesman for the Food & Drink Federation & the British Soft Drinks Association said the 'overwhelming majority' of soft drinks bottles were free of Bisphenol A.
