Improve your leg strength with Utkatasana

Utkatasana – Awkward Chair pose is one of the best yoga pose for improving leg strength. This yoga pose also works on the core muscles as you keep them in a rigid position while holding this posture. While performing this asana it also stretches the back, chest, shoulders & arms & can help to relieve stress & tension. Utkatasana also stimulates the heart, diaphragm & abdominal organs.

Detailed technique : Start this pose by standing in Tadasana. Inhale deeply and raise both your hands over your head, keeping your arms straight. Feel the stretch along your chest and spine. Now exhales and lower your knees so that your upper body is at 45 degrees to the floor. Ensure that you keep your back straight at all time. The lowering motion must be performed by your thighs, knees, and hips alone. Try to remain in this posture for 20 to 30 seconds. Then slowly return to the starting position.

Things to Remember : The Utkatasana should not be performed by those who suffer from low blood pressure, insomnia, or headaches.
