Ways to get rid of Itchy Scalp Dandruff

Dandruff : The problem of itchy scalp dandruff is mostly faced by the women & the girls of young age. Dandruff is the excessive flaking of dead skin from the scalp. In the normal process of the skin, the top most layer of the skin known as epithelial has a layer of dead skin. It breaks up & flakes off every month in such minute quantity that it is not even noticeable.

Reasons of scalp dandruff : When some one has dandruff then there is an abnormally high cell turnover rate & skin shedding occurs in two to seven days. This abnormally high amount of skin cell turnover, combined with sebum that is secreted in the sebaceous glands, causes white flakes to fall off the scalp & hair. There is also evidence to support the role of a fungus in the occurrence of dandruff.

There is specific scalp yeast that exists on the head. This yeast feeds off the triglycerides in sebum & metabolizes it into oleic acid incidentally, the active part of olive oil. Some people have a reaction to oleic acid and this causes irritation and the cells of the epithelial layer to slough off.

Treatment of dandruff : It require the remedy that removes the dead skin cells & also eliminate the fungus from hair. Normally women can just increase the number of tomes that they wash their hair with shampoo & it itself will take care of this problem. However, it is a more effective treatment to get rid of the fungus in the scalp, since this might be a causative factor.

Removing dead skin cells : The first thing that has to be done is to remove the dead skin cells. For this, apply some salicylic acid to the hair and then wash it off. You can then apply a shampoo that contains selenium sulfide or zinc pyrithione, which will kill off any fungi. This should relieve the itching symptoms as well since there is no fungus to cause the production of oleic acid & the subsequent irritation.

Massaging scalp : Massaging the scalp is also very useful to get rid of the dandruff problem. To specifically target your dry scalp. Apply some almond oil to your scalp. If this is problematic, try to get your scalp to sweat by standing head first over some steam. Then massage your scalp gently, don’t rub the scalp harshly because it can further create the problem.
