Diet plan for patients of Ulcerative Colitis

Ulcerative Colitis is a form of inflammatory bowl disease (IBD) in a form of colitis which is a disease of the intestine specially the large intestine or colon. It includes open sores, in colon. Its main symptom is usually constant diarrhea mixed with blood. The colon is the part of digestive where waste materials are stored.

The rectum is the end of the colon adjacent to the anus. In this disease ulcer & inflammation of the inner lining of the colon lead to symptoms of abdominal pain, diarrhea & rectal bleeding. Here are explained the diets that should avoid for the patients of Ulcerative Colitis.

1. Dairy products : People with inflammatory bowel disease such as ulcerative colitis may have problem in digesting dairy products. If they experienced abdominal pain & diarrhea with dairy products, they must try low-lactose yogurt or cheese. Another option for such patients is lactaid.

2. Avoid fibers : People with IBD may not be able to digest fiber well. It can result in worsening diarrhea, gas &abdominal pain. The patents of ulcerative colitis can eat vegetables that are steamed stewed or baked if they can’t tolerate raw vegetables. Some fruits & vegetables are mort difficult to digest if you have IBD, such a cauliflower, cabbage, raw carrots & raw apples. You should try different foods that are high in fiber and determine which ones you are able to tolerate well.

3. Avoid trigger foods : Certain foods may trigger your symptoms and you should avoid these. In addition to the fruits & vegetables that may give you difficulty, you may want to avoid beans, raw fruits & juices particularly citrus, chocolate, popcorn & spicy foods. 4. Eating balanced diet : Patients of ulcerative colitis should try to at a balanced diet & limit their consumption of saturated fats, cholesterol, sugars & sodium. However, it may be overwhelming to try to find а healthy diet that works for their disease. 5. Changing lifestyle : Changes in lifestyle may be helpful. Patients should try to eliminate stress as much as possible because it can make symptoms more severe. Regular exercise, relaxation & techniques such as yoga, deep breathing & medication are options. Drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated & ask doctor if they should take multivitamins to make certain that they are receiving all the necessary nutrients.
