How to prevent you from Dehydration?

Dehydration is condition which is causes due to excessive usage of alcohol & caffeinated products. To hydrate your body you should keep the body’s water contents at its optimal level. Mild hydration can be treated at home but its severe form can become the main reason of death. Dehydration is defined as the excessive loss of water & salt from the body. Dehydration can be dangerous if it goes uncorrected for a long time.

Symptoms of dehydration : The symptoms of dehydration include feeling of thirst, dry tongue& mouth & also the reduce output of urine. Severe signs of dehydration include sunken eyes, wrinkled skin, dizziness, and confusion. In some severe patients high heart rate & elevated respiratory will also seen as the major symptoms of dehydration.

Causes of dehydration : Causes of dehydration include prolonged exposure to the sun or heat, and excessive sweating. It also includes prolonged vomiting, diarrhea and high fever. All of these conditions deplete the body of its fluids. Overdose of diuretics can also cause dehydration.

Preventing dehydration : Nature helps us to keep our body well hydrated, the sense of thirst makes us to drink water. The sense of thrust should not be ignored. When you feel thirsty you should drink as much as water as you can. Drinking other substitutes like beer, alcoholic beverages & coffee are not acceptable forms of hydration fluids because they have dehydrating effects.

Drinking liquids : When a person is dehydrated he should drink lots of liquids to replace the water that has been lost. He should drink a small amount of water every 30 to 60 minutes. Drinking large amounts of water suddenly can upset the dehydrated stomach & cause vomiting. For the first one should drink clear liquids only. Ready-made re-hydration packs with electrolyte solutions can be purchased from local grocery stores.

Making your own fluid replacement mixture : If you are dehydrated you can make your own fluid replacement mixture. All you need to do is to mix 1 level teaspoon of sugar and 1/2 level teaspoon of salt to 1 pint of water. Do not use apple juice, soft drinks, tea, chicken broth, or other sports drinks. They contain different ratios of water, salts, and sugars.

Examine visually patients urine : An objective way to evaluate if patient has become hydrated is to visually examine the patient’s urine. Continue to consume fluids until urine is pale yellow. Sometimes a dehydrated person will need to drink 8 to 12 glasses of liquids a day to bring hydration levels back to normal.
