Effect of smoking on your stomach

It showed that presently one out of every ten persons is getting killed due to smoking. It has been estimated that this may lead to a death of one out of every six persons in 2030 if situations go uncontrolled as it is presently. Therefore, apart from the general phobia of smoking leading to respiratory troubles or cancer, smoking leading to stomach acidity will surely lead to raising a thousand eyebrows. Here is shown the connections between the two, smoking & acidity.

There are seven below mentioned routes which lead to acidity through smoking

1. Smoking inhibits saliva production. While saliva contains bicarbonate ions which help to neutralize the GI tract acidity. Thus if saliva production is blocked stomach acidity increases.

2. Nicotine content in tobacco encourages the production of acids in stomach due to smoking. This also leads to slowing in gastric motility which hampers digestion process.

3. Smoking encourages the movement of bile salts from intestine to the stomach which enhances the harmful effects of stomach acids.

4. Smoking also may lead to esophageal injury. This also leads to increase in gastric acids.

5. Nicotine also leads to inappropriate relaxing of lower esophageal valve, which results in the backward movement of the gastric juices leading to heart burn symptoms.

6. Inhaled smokes also contain several extra cellular acids, polaromatic compounds leading to increase in acidity of stomach.

7. Smoking leads to intake of carbon monoxide which preferentially binds to hemoglobin compared to oxygen. Thus blood pO2 decreases leading to decrease in pH, and hence acidity in body fluid.

Acidity in stomach can cause you the following diseases

1. A severe acid condition forces the body to borrow minerals - including calcium, sodium, potassium and magnesium from organs and bones to buffer (neutralize) the acid to safely remove it from the body. This is a primary cause of osteoporosis.

2. Cardiovascular damage.

3. Weight gain, obesity.

4. Diabetes.

5. Bladder conditions- kidney stones.

6. Increased propensity for depression.

7. Acceleration of free radical damage.

8. Hormonal problems premature aging.

9. Aching muscles and lactic acid buildup.

10. Osteoporosis and joint pain including arthritis.

11. Low energy and chronic fatigue.

12. Slow digestion and elimination yeast/fungal overgrowth Lack of energy and fatigue.

13. Lower body temperature, escalation of tendency for infection.

14. Immune deficiency, loss of drive, joy, and enthusiasm.

15. Headaches Gastritis.

16. Mouth & stomach ulcers Cracks at the corners of the lips.

17. Inflammation of the corneas and eyelids.

18. Nails are thin and split easily Hair looks dull, have split ends, and falls out.
Dry skin easily irritated.

The best cure advisable for this is to quit smoking. You may be not caring the statutory warning of the cigarette packets ‘cigarette smoking is injurious to health’ but if you will still be indifferent to your habit after hearing about these facts.
